Women in the Trades - An ECCA Hosted Event

Students from Cambridge Middle School, F. Donald Myers Education Center, Glens Falls Middle School and High School, Hudson Falls Middle School, Queensbury Middle School and Warrensburg Junior/Senior High came to spend the day with ECCA students, instructors and industry partners. They participated in a hands-on activity, learned about the possibilities females have in the trades and heard how ECCA programs provide students an opportunity to earn college credits and internationally recognized industry certifications.

A new club was introduced called the G2 Crew (Girls’ Girls Crew). "At Girls’ Girls Crew, the mission is to empower young women by providing them with opportunities to explore trades and skilled labor force careers, all while fostering their growth, success, and connections to various trades and technology fields. The club was explained to students and gauged for interest with the group.

Women from local industries joined the event to share their experiences and talk about opportunities in their fields. Those women were from the following companies: Barton Mines,

GlobalFoundries, Hollingsworth & Vose, Praxis Powder Technology Inc., Saratoga's Community Federal Credit Union and WSWHE BOCES.

Before heading back to their homeschools, students broke into small groups and were brought on classroom tours to learn about a day in the life of an ECCA student. They went from classroom to classroom in each of the four pathways available: Advanced Manufacturing, Business and Entrepreneurship, IT/ Computer Networking and New Media.
