Programs for
Students
Diversity Training
Exploring other languages and
cultures is one of the most effective
means of helping students embrace
diversity. For districts interested in
offering a program that focuses
explicitly on diversity, a workshop can
be designed to complement your program.
Exchange Programs
Enrich your school by participating
in student and teacher exchange
programs. Contact us to find out about
some of the available opportunities.
Distance Learning
The opportunity to learn
less-commonly-taught languages such as
Mandarin can be brought to your students
via distance learning technology.
Extracurricular Programs
After-school language programs
typically meet one hour/week during a
portion of the school year. Week-long
summer programs typically meet a few
hours/day. Combine the two to provide
year-round opportunities for your
students. Because these are
enrichment courses, school districts
receive BOCES aid toward a portion of
the cost of the program.

Itinerant Teachers
Itinerant Services, which makes it
possible for districts to share
teachers, is a perfect match for smaller
language programs, including those
focusing on Less Commonly Taught
Languages (LCTL) and Foreign Languages
in the Elementary School (FLES).
Support for Heritage Speakers
Are you searching for ways to help
the students in your district who speak
languages other than English maintain
their language abilities and acquire
literacy skills in their home
language? Contact us to find out about
resources that may be helpful.
Student Exchanges
Enrich your school by participating
in a student exchange program. Contact
us to find out about some of the
available opportunities.
Travel Opportunities for Students
Not enough students in your district
to take a group trip that supports your
language curriculum? Consider
partnering with other districts to make
these types of trips possible. Contact
us to find possible travel partners.
Young Scholars Foreign Language
Option
An early introduction to a foreign
language is a perfect match for students
with strong language skills. The Young
Scholars Foreign Language Option can be
designed based on a district's
preferences. For example, a language
and culture program that includes an
introduction to Mandarin Chinese and a
Socratic seminar focusing on the Silk
Road is one possibility. Content-based
immersion courses in Spanish and French
can also be developed. On-line options
created to match the interests of
individuals and small groups can also be
explored.
