The Shared LAN Technician
Service can provide assistance to districts in planning,
development, implementation, and management of both Local
Area Networks (LANs) and District-wide Area Networks (DANs)
in conjunction with local district technology staff. By
development and implementing networks districts can provide
access to educational resources and materials efficiently
and cost-effectively, increase and extend the variety of
teaching methods and techniques available to staff, and
provide equal access to opportunities to students.
The Network Analysts provided by BOCES can also serve to
coordinate additional assistance from other BOCES services,
such as computer repair and cleaning from Technology
Services, Internet Connectivity and Videoconferencing as
provided by the Wide Area Networking Service, equipment
delivery from the Courier Service, and Curriculum
Integration from Model Schools. Further, their expertise
can be used to assist district personnel with technology
planning, equipment ordering and purchasing, and asset
management. And although the Network Analysts specialize in
networking, their technology expertise is broad-based so
that they can assist with technologies ranging from
surveillance systems to Smartboards to cell phones,
depending on the needs of the district.
Shared LAN Technicians currently serve in nearly 20
districts of the BOCES, providing both regularly scheduled
and limited on-call services. The service is supervised by
Matt Hull, the Senior LAN Technician and staffed by the
