The Young
Scholars program meets the unique intellectual, social and
emotional needs of high ability students in grades 4-8 who
have reasoning skills in the top one or two percent of
students in their age group nationwide as measured by the
SCAT test (School and College Ability Test created by Johns
Hopkins University). Our curriculum focus is to provide
accelerated instruction exhibiting the following key
features:
-
Challenging
literature, including unabridged works by Homer,
Shakespeare, Sophocles, Mark Twain and others
-
Immersion in
the humanities, art, history, architecture, and
etymology that offers rigor and challenge for students
-
Writing,
including in-depth instruction on persuasive writing
that is tailored to student strengths and weaknesses
-
Science and
math integration featuring visiting scientists and other
guests which allow for problem solving and abstract
thinking across disciplines
-
Collaboration
with other high ability students by sharing ideas,
knowledge and interests
-
Highly
trained staff of teachers in gifted education principles
and philosophy.
Young Scholars
classes are small (10-20 students) in order to enhance our
instructional program and stimulate active shared
inquiry. Classes meet once a week, all day for the academic
school year. Please contact us at (518) 581-3585 or e-mail
