Data Analysis Information Central

The School Improvement Service provides assistance to component school districts in Data Analysis. Effective skills in data analysis and interpretation are essential to the development of school improvement plans leading to improved student achievement. This service is aimed at supporting school districts in collecting and analyzing various types of data to identify strengths and weaknesses at either the level of the programs or at the level of the student.

All educators with a desire to enhance their skills and/or resources for data-driven decision-making can benefit from the continuum of services that are available. The continuum ranges from the provision of comprehensive analyses of district data to general support and training as districts analyze their own data. Some potential services include:

Base Service

As a part of the base service, component districts are provided with annual trend charts summarizing ELA 4, Math 4, ELA 8, and Math 8 data. In addition, districts receive item maps, and a school report card template.

After receipt of these materials, districts can receive technical assistance on how to interpret the district-level data, how to identify additional data needed for decision-making and additional workshops needed to inform instruction with teachers and/or administrators.

Custom Service

In addition to the base service, custom work consisting of district or school-specific projects and may include:

  •    Predictive studies of annual assessment data (e.g., do 4th grade assessment results predict performance on the 8th grade assessment?)

  •    State assessment error analyses (e.g., what areas of ELA Book 2 were the most difficult for students and what were the common errors?)
