School
Improvement Services are designed to support local school
districts in the areas of professional development,
curriculum development and instructional design,
instructional strategies and school planning/organization. Using
these four areas as vehicles for school improvement, the
current focus of the service is on the New York State
Learning Standards and Assessments and the federal No Child
Left Behind program.
A variety of regional activities are provided
including:
- Technical
assistance for district and building planning efforts
- Staff
development in research-based instructional models
(Brain-Based Learning, Cooperative Learning,
Differentiated Instruction, etc.)
- Curriculum
mapping, alignment and development
- Professional
development for administrative leadership
- Coordination
of communication and information sharing among regional
groups (content group meetings, BOCES
ListServ)
- NYS
Assessment Scoring Training
- Technical
assistance in the areas of federal and state
initiatives, such as the No Child Left Behind Act
- Links
with other regional, state and national resources
including: Teacher
Centers, Regional Leadership Academy, Regional School
Support Services Center,
- Facilitation
of consortiums seeking grant funding
Regional
Assessment Scoring Support
The
School Improvement Service also coordinates the regional
scoring process for the NYS ELA Grade 4 and 8 Assessments,
including collection/return of exams; table leader training;
clerical support and the distribution of score sheets to the
Regional Information Center.
