The Special and Alternative Education Division of WSWHE BOCES takes the team approach in our provision of services. We believe in the intrinsic value of each child as reflected in a strength-based educational approach.

Our goal in the Special and Alternative Education Division of WSWHE BOCES is to provide regional leadership through collaborative partnerships and educational programs designed to meet the needs of each child. By bringing together the collective energy of each child, family, school and community, we hope to maximize the potential of each child and help him/her become an integral and productive member of society.

Special Education programs are for students with disabilities whose instructional needs cannot be appropriately served by their local school districts in district-operated programs.

Alternative Education programs provide a unique learning environment intended to reconnect the disaffected student who has experienced significant school failure and is therefore considered “at risk” of dropping out of school.
