Special
Education programs operated by BOCES are for students with
disabilities whose instructional needs cannot be
appropriately served by their local school districts in
district-operated programs. Services provided are based
exclusively upon the Individual Education Program (IEP)
developed for each student by his or her local school
district’s Committee on Special Education or Committee
on Preschool Special Education and approved by the
district Board of Education. The instruction in these
classes aligns with the New York State Learning Standards
preparing students for the appropriate assessments as
identified on their IEP. Based on their IEP, students have
the option to either work toward a Regents diploma, IEP
diploma or prepare for the GED.
