WSWHE BOCES coordinates the planning and implementation of an interactive video/voice network that allows for the simultaneous sharing of educational courses and programs between participating schools districts. High school and college level academic courses for students, staff development opportunities for school personnel and community based activities for adults are all being scheduled over the network.

Currently there are interactive classroom sites in the following districts: Corinth, Fort Edward, Galway, Glens Falls, Granville, Hadley-Luzerne, Indian Lake, Johnsburg, Keene, Mechanicville, Newcomb, Schuylerville, South Glens Falls, Warrensburg, Waterford-Halfmoon, and WSWHE BOCES.   Additionally, in collaboration with Capital Region BOCES and Hamilton-Fulton-Montgomery BOCES, programming from sites in those regions is also available to SAN schools for a total of 40 participating sites.

Current advancements in the technology are enhancing the capacity of SAN to serve its clients. Because of the recent technology conversion to ATM, districts are now able to schedule interregional courses without the technical constraints that had previously limited the number of simultaneous interconnects. In the future, this technology will also allow for program connection to other regions in New York State and the nation. The SAN has also been improved through the addition of a video gateway which allows the Network to connect with sites that use videoconference technology. A primary use of this feature is to conduct interactive virtual field trips to museums, zoos and other educational institutions.
