Silent Wings Are a Hoot

Students learned how vultures are nature’s clean up crew and that they migrate to warmer climates in the winter. They met Hootie, an Eastern Screech Owl. They learned how the Aplomado Falcon is an endangered species that was extricated from the Texas grasslands.

They also met Lucas, a Barred Owl and learned how they are stealth hunters and the second largest type of owl in New York. They visited with a Red Tail Hawk and Wyatt, a Eurasian Eagle Owl who really enjoyed their attention.

All of the birds are cared for by rescue specialist and educator Trish Marki who gave the students tips on conservation and how to call for help if they find injured birds in the wild. For more information about the program, visit https://www.silentwingsraptors.org/
