The SkillsUSA regional competition, held at Schenectady County Community College, Stratton Air National Guard Base, and International Union of Operating Engineers (Local 158), pitted the top winners from local competitions from the various technical schools in northeastern New York. In addition to WSWHE BOCES, students who competed were from Capital Region BOCES, Questar III and Champlain Valley Educational Services.
The competitions measured students’ skills in their chosen field of study including carpentry, welding, auto repair, culinary, restaurant service, cosmetology, first aid/CPR, and much more, in addition to presentation skills, interview skills and public speaking. Students are given an assignment that must be completed within a set time frame. Leaders in business and industry judge the contests.
Early College Career Academy students represented 11 schools that participated in this year's event. These students took one of the top 3 medals in every contest they signed up for.
The winners of this competition are now moving on to the NY State Competitions that are planned for April 27 to 29, 2022 at the NYS Fairgrounds in Syracuse, NY.
