Modeled after ‘speed dating’, speed mentoring is a series of short conversations between students and professionals that provides youth with an opportunity to gain knowledge from a variety of adults. Students had the opportunity to meet individuals with careers related to the automotive industry. They visited each mentor for a personal discussion on career paths. Mentors included:
Della Cadillac
Fat Boys Kustomz
New Country Porsche
Nissan of Saratoga
Saratoga Honda
Coles Collision Center Wilton
Cornice Technology
Hudson Valley Community College
Saratoga Auto Supply, Inc.
Saratoga Automobile Museum
Saratoga Motorcar Auctions
Chase Williams, a junior from Saratoga Springs High School who participated in the event, said, “I learned more about detailing, getting into auto tech and about the things employers want to see in employees.”
He likes learning about electrical aspects of the automotive technology program because electric vehicles are gaining in popularity and he feels we'll have to learn more about that.
Kate Mancini from Saratoga Honda said she gained a new perspective from the students who told her how often it is intimidating for them to go into job interviews.
“I will change my interview practice because of this exercise. I will have younger, entry-level staff participate in the process to make young applicants feel comfortable so they can be on the same level.”
