Children Need Beds - CTE Students Step Up

Construction Trades instructor Ian Hamilton said of the project, “This was a great opportunity for the students to use the skills that they are acquiring to give back to the community. The students partnered with SHP to build 14 beds for children within Saratoga county who have no place of their own to sleep.”

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a group of volunteers dedicated to building, assembling and delivering top-notch bunk beds to children and families in need. The organization believes that a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional, and mental support that a child needs. When it was brought to their attention that the need for beds went far beyond their own neighborhoods, they stepped up and took initiative. Thus, their tagline is “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town®.” With more than 200 chapters and thousands of volunteers, they are dedicated to sharing the awareness of a national problem and helping solve it.

Rebuilding Together Saratoga was the sponsor for the event.

Principal for CTE Programs at the Myers Center, Mandy D'Andrea, said, “Our students and staff really look forward to this volunteer experience and to give back to the community. Working with SHP allows many opportunities for our students. They gain volunteer participation time, build something that's more than a class project, and they feel good about providing help to those in need."
