Regional Spelling Bee
Eligibility: Students may enter the Bee providing they shall not have reached the age of 16 by the registration deadline and have not entered the ninth grade. Competitors may be in 4th to 8th grade. Students of all ages will compete using the same words.
Cost: As you may know, the WSWHE BOCES Regional Spelling Bee is a service that is eligible for state aid. The cost for each speller is $50.00. Should you wish to enter a speller from your school and are not a participant of the Gifted and Talented Resource Center, you may still register a student at a cost of $100.00 per speller. All WSWHE BOCES component districts may send one speller per building and will be billed $50/$100 per speller after the event. Private schools may send one student and that student’s home district will be billed. The district will then bill the private school for reimbursement.
Prizes: The winner of the spelling bee will receive a trophy, certificate and their school will receive a plaque for display during the school year including the winner's name engraved on it. Runners up to 6th place will also be honored. All participants will receive a t-shirt.
Timeline: Please have your local competitions (you may enter contestants if you have not conducted a competition and have a talented speller interested in competing) completed by the registration deadline and send the name of your entrant to us. LATE ENTRANTS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETE.
Registration Forms: The most current registration form will be available at a later date.
