Qualifications: 

Must be hold a valid New York State Cosmetology License and;

Must hold a valid NYS Career & Technical Education (CTE) certification in Cosmetology 7-12 or be eligible for this certificate based on relevant industry experience(4 years minimum or 2 years minimum with related degree)
Function:

 

Provide instruction in the Cosmetology Summer Program based on established curriculum.

Responsibilities:

○ Develop and teach comprehensive curriculum in cosmetology including theory and practical
instruction in areas such as haircutting, hair coloring, hairstyling, chemical treatments, nail care,
skincare, and makeup application;
○ Ensure curriculum aligns with New York State Education Department regulations and prepares
students for the New York State Cosmetology Licensing Examination;
○ Demonstrate proper techniques and safety protocols for using cosmetology tools and products
○ Supervise and mentor students during hands-on practical work in a salon setting;
○ Grade student work, including practical evaluations, written tests, and projects;
○ Maintain accurate student records such as attendance, grades, and competency evaluations
○ Promote professionalism and customer service skills needed for success in the cosmetology
industry;
○ Stay up-to-date on latest trends, techniques, products, and regulations in the cosmetology field;
○ Purchase and maintain inventory of cosmetology supplies and equipment for the classroom;
○ Manage the classroom/salon environment to ensure safety and cleanliness;
○ Coordinate with academic instructors to integrate core subjects into the cosmetology program;
○ Advise students on career planning and postsecondary opportunities in cosmetology;
○ Cultivate relationships with salons and businesses for student internships/job placement;
○ Evaluate and grade students' class work, labs, quizzes, exams, and practical skills exams;
○ Track student progress and and completion of hours requirements and adapt teaching methods
to meet varying abilities and learning styles;
○ Prepare students for certification exams by reviewing materials and administering practice tests;
○ Maintain accurate administrative records for attendance, grades, certification exam results, and
other data;
○ Participate in professional development activities to stay current in the field;
○ Maintain positive relationships with colleagues, parents, advisory boards, and industry partners
in the community;
○ Implement BOCES policies, procedures and State Education Department mandates;

○ Other duties as assigned.
